Sildefanil (Viagra) Improves Female Sexual Arousal Disorder for Some: A 202-patient 12 week DB PC of sildefanil 25-100 mg per dose found that women with FSAD but no with comorbid Hypo-active Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD) were help by sildefanil whereas women with both disorders were not. UCLA. All patients had protocol specified estradiol and free testosterone concentrations or were receiving estrogen and/or androgen replacement therapy. Probably, the effect was relatively minor.

Testosterone Patch Slight Benefit for Low Sexual Desire After Ovaries Removed: In a 24-week DB PC study of 447 women who had developed distressful low sexual desire after bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and hysterectomy and who were receiving oral estrogen therapy, placebo (n = 119) or testosterone patches in dosages of 150 microg/d (n = 107), 300 microg/d (n = 110), or 450 microg/d (n = 111) twice weekly were compared. Compared with placebo, women receiving the 300-microg/d testosterone patch had significantly greater increases from baseline in sexual desire (67% vs 48%; P = .05) and in frequency of satisfying sexual activity (79% vs 43%; P = .049). The 150-microg/d group showed no evidence of benefit. The 450-microg/d group also was not statistically different from the 300-microg/d or placebo groups. Marginally significant linear dose-response trends were observed for total satisfying sexual activity and sexual desire at 24 weeks (P = .06 and .06, respectively). Hysterectomy Improves Sexual Satisfaction: A study of 413 women having hysterectomy for benign conditions other than symptomatic prolapse or endometriosis reported improved satisfaction. Roughly 40% reported some sex problem due to surgery regardless of which of 3 techniques used, vaginal, abdominal or sub-total. In Netherlands, 32% of women eventually get hysterectomies. Anti-Depressant Bupropion Helps Sexual Desire: Premenopausal women with hypoactive sexual desire disorder were treated in a DB PC 112-day trial of bupropion sustained release. All measures indicated greater sexual responsiveness in women receiving bupropion including increasing measures of sexual arousal, orgasm completion, and sexual satisfaction. There is no advantage to the sustained release version which is just a waste of the public's money. The benefit is not related to its anti-depressant effect.
